About Tidelands Group
Why the name Tidelands Group?
Over 30 years ago, I attended college in downtown San Diego with my then girlfriend. Many nights after class we would cross over the bridge to Coronado to walk along the water at Tidelands Park and dream of our future. Sometimes we would climb over a gate to get out onto a pier where we could see Leopard Sharks and Sting Rays swimming around. We were poor, hungry, and exhausted from working multiple jobs and going to school at night. But we had each other, and we were happy.

With time, Tidelands Park became "our place". It is where I proposed to my now wife of over 30 years. It is where we took our kids when they were little to walk and collect seashells during low tide. It is where we go to walk and share happiness & heartbreak alike. It is where many of our life decisions have been made. It is only appropriate that I use the name in my next venture with my wife. After all, it is where we started our first venture together.

About our Founder

After 6 years Roy joined the team at a respected computer VAR in San Diego where he worked in a leadership role for nearly 20 years. First, as the Director of Accounting and then as the Director of Technology overseeing the Internal IT as well as the products and services offered to their clients. As the Director of Technology, he grew the company's product offerings, increased service revenues, and successfully started up a Managed Services division targeting small to medium sized businesses.

After his time working for the computer VAR, he joined a growing Engineering firm in San Diego as their IT Manager and shortly became a member of the leadership as the Business Manager and then as the Chief Administrative Officer. As the CAO he over saw multiple consolidations and mergers that required heavy IT project management and hands on IT experience. After five years, Roy felt that the natural next step in his career was to start his own company where he can further explore his passion for IT and Business Consulting; thus, Tidelands Group was born.

Our founder, Roy Thompson, has over 25 years of experience in not only Information Technology, but Accounting and Finance, Human Resources, and Business Management. His career started in Accounting and Finance, but he quickly fell in love with Information Technology and he has been involved in IT ever since. Early in his career, he was instrumental in bringing computerized accounting, RAID storage, and a more modern TCP/IP network to the first company he worked for.
